Being OK With Not Being Extraordinary
The internet always highlights the first place winners, the billionaires, the award-winning artists, the best-selling authors, the largest philanthropists, the extraordinary. We need to redefine extraordinary. Extraordinary is often defined by the internet as a permanent trait someone has.
Tweek: a cool planning app that's dead simple; all you get is a week view where you can plan out the next 7 days. You can either check things off through the web app, or print your calendar off and stick it to a wall.
Eisenhower Matrix
This tool will help you prioritize your actions and tasks by importance and urgency.
The matrix has four quadrants along two axes: importance and urgency. For every activity or task, ask yourself: It is important or not? Is it urgent or not?
Based on the answer, place the activity/task in the right quadrant. The quadrant determines what you should do with the task.
Why efficiency is dangerous and slowing down makes life better
What should we do in the face of this radical uncertainty? When making decisions, instead of asking ourselves which option will give us the best results, we should be asking which option will give us good-enough results under the widest range of future states of the world.
Using Brown Noise While Running
Brown noise is a useful sound masking tool, that can block out external sounds and distractions and be used in many different ways. Compared to white and pink noise, brown noise uses mostly lower frequencies and is considered the most soothing to listen to of the three.
It always feel nice to see new tech being developed. Especially when you see a digital notebook that feels like paper.
To be creative, Chinese philosophy teaches us to abandon âoriginalityâ
But imagine instead that we worked with idea that creativity wasnât about novelty. That doesnât mean weâd have to give up the value of originality entirely, but rather see it as one of a range of possible outcomes. Casting a wider net in this way might hence make creativity (whatever it involves) easier to achieve.
Exist: a new (for me at least) habit tracking tool
You can use custom tags, or attributes like time asleep, bedtime, active energy burned, workout time, protein, or tasks completed, for example. Just choose an attribute or custom tag, then choose whether you want a daily or weekly habit, and set a goal amount to aim for.
The quest to slow ageing through drug discovery
Abstract | Although death is inevitable, individuals have long sought to alter the course of the ageing process. Indeed, ageing has proved to be modifiable; by intervening in biological systems, such as nutrient sensing, cellular senescence, the systemic environment and the gut microbiome, phenotypes of ageing can be slowed sufficiently to mitigate age- related functional decline. These interventions can also delay the onset of many disabling, chronic diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease and neurodegeneration, in animal models. Here, we examine the most promising interventions to slow ageing and group them into two tiers based on the robustness of the preclinical, and some clinical, results, in which the top tier includes rapamycin, senolytics, metformin, acarbose, spermidine, NAD+ enhancers and lithium. We then focus on the potential of the interventions and the feasibility of conducting clinical trials with these agents, with the overall aim of maintaining health for longer before the end of life.
